One of the architects of that plan for a Trump second term said as much in a video last year for the Heritage Foundation. Reissuing Schedule F is part of a roadmap, known as Project 2025, drafted for a second Trump term by scores of conservative groups and published by the Heritage Foundation. The new rules would not fully block reclassifying workers in a second Trump term. Greene said she worries for federal workers who might face the same choice in a second Trump term. The project includes a personnel database for potential hires in a second Trump administration.

Washington, DC CNN —First lady Dr. Jill Biden isn’t holding back as her role in her husband’s reelection campaign comes into sharper focus. The first lady is juggling her campaign work with her official role and her full-time teaching job at Northern Virginia Community College. She’s going to go to a variety of areas in this country,” a source familiar with the planning said. Biden campaign advisers believe the first lady’s appeal has far reach – particularly with women and grassroots supporters and in moderate parts of the country. “Here’s the thing about men like Donald Trump - they underestimate our power because they don’t understand it,” she said in Atlanta.

Some two decades after leaving the White House, Rosalynn Carter reflected on the criticism she generated for expanding the role of a first lady. “The first lady role has changed,” she observed. Mrs. Carter pushed the boundaries that had constrained most of her predecessors. Nancy Reagan recalled in her memoir a “chill in her manner” when Mrs. Carter showed her around the White House following the 1980 election when Ronald Reagan defeated Mr. Carter. Dr. Biden “isn’t an activist first lady” in the way that Mrs. Carter was, said Mr. LaRosa, the former aide to the current first lady.

Jimmy Carter’s participation in the events has been a day-by-day question; he is 10 months into home hospice care. Rosalynn Carter has been praised for a half-century of advocacy for better mental health care in America and reducing stigma attached to mental illness. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter confirmed they voted in the 2016 Georgia Democratic presidential primary for Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton. Jimmy Carter also rankled some of his successors with criticism of their foreign and military policy, especially George W. Bush’s 2003 invasion of Iraq. Jimmy Carter is the longest-lived president; Rosalynn Carter was the second-longest lived first lady, trailing only Bess Truman, who died at 97.

In any other circumstance it would have been a shocking sight. Not only that, but she created a situation in which Mrs. Trump was seated right next to Michelle Obama. Mrs. Trump has eschewed almost every major event since leaving the White House in January 2021, including her husband’s several court appearances (the rare exception being his November 2022 announcement that he was once again running for president). But on Tuesday, as is custom, she joined the three other living former first ladies — Mrs. Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush — as well as Jill Biden, the current first lady, at the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta, for Mrs. Carter’s memorial service. “Rosalynn Carter would be so pleased she brought all of you together on this day,” the journalist Judy Woodruff said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — When President Joe Biden meets Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Wednesday, there will be no such thing as a small detail. Biden and Xi will meet while both attend next week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco, but even basic information has remained closely guarded. That recalls Biden's nearly three-hour meeting with Xi before the start of last year’s G-20 summit in Bali. The Chinese attach importance to the location, which this time may be more like Sunnylands than Anchorage, where top U.S. and Chinese officials held rather tense 2021 talks. Hillary Clinton's 1995 Beijing visit turned heads for a different reason when she declared that “human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights."

U.S. President Joe Biden’s dog Commander looks down after Biden arrived back to the White House following his visit to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, U.S., September 30, 2023. WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden's dog Commander, whose history of biting became public in recent months, is no longer at the White House, a spokesperson for the first lady said Wednesday. The Daily Mail published photos of Commander and Dale Haney, the superintendent of the White House grounds, who has worked at the White House for more than 50 years. Last month, a Secret Service spokesman also confirmed to NBC News that Commander bit a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer. The Bidens' other dog, Major, was sent to live in Delaware after repeated nipping incidents at the White House.

A photograph from 2006 shows Yevgeny Prigozhin serving dinner to then-President George W. Bush. Prigozhin was running catering for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, earning the name "Putin's chef." The former president was then asked if he thought Russian leader Vladimir Putin could "survive" the consequences of the Ukraine war if the conflict does not end in Moscow's favor. And I challenge you to find me one voter, just one, whose pro or con decision about Trump hinged on his third wife. I’d forgotten all about her until she came up the other day in a Daily Beast headline that called Casey DeSantis “the Walmart Melania.” Better than “the Bergdorf Melania,” which would be redundant. But while we tend to exaggerate the importance of what a spouse does in public, we sometimes shortchange the relevance of what a spouse does in private. That’s where and how Casey DeSantis probably matters most. The political spouse I observed most closely, Laura Bush, was much more consequential behind the scenes than in front of the cameras.

Melania Trump's stylist received $132,000 for "strategy consulting" in 2022, FEC filings show. Herve Pierre Braillard designed Melania Trump's dress for her husband's inaugural ball. Reports of Save America PAC paying Braillard first emerged in August 2022, showing at that time that the fund had paid the stylist $60,000 for "strategy consulting." The Federal Elections Commission does not allow PACs to spend money on personal items, but leadership PACs such as Save America PAC have fewer spending restrictions. Trump's Save America PAC was established in November 2020, just days after President Joe Biden's election victory, and has fundraised on the back of promoting voter fraud claims and supporting Trump's chosen candidates.
The United States on Wednesday called for Iran to be expelled from a U.N. commission on women, citing the regime’s “systematic oppression” of women and its violent crackdown on street protests. Iranian women have been at the forefront of protests across the country since a 22-year-old woman from the country’s Kurdish region, Mahsa Amini, died in police custody in September. Human rights groups have made similar allegations and issued detailed accounts of the crackdown. Two rights groups, Norway-based group Iran Human Rights and the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, said last week that more than 250 protesters have been killed since the protests began. “It’s time for us to stop abetting the Islamic Republic of Iran and start supporting the freedom-loving people of Iran,” said Boniadi.
Former First Lady Melania Trump will join other first ladies to promote a women's suffrage monument. She tweeted that she is "honored" to help secure a monument "of enduring inspiration" for women. The Women's Suffrage National Monument Foundation announced its honorary chairs on Monday would include Biden, Trump, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Rosalynn Carter. The foundation is tasked with carrying out a law, signed by Trump, to build the monument. The Women's Suffrage National Monument will be unveiled in the summer of 2027, according to the foundation.
